About Toto
Toto was founded in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also acclaimed studio players working with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. They decide to record a new album and change their name with an entirely different producer. The lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen leaves the band and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of the legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph is a more natural frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much needed boost.
The band released Mindfields in 1999, and then embarks on a huge tour around the world. After a few months in Europe they head to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a short break, Toto resumes recording and begins recording their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes an original cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band performing their hit song Africa on a recent tour.
